BOONKA

(Student Design Challenge 1st Place)

Boonka is an award-winning project for George Mason University Design Challenge.

The goal of this project was to figure out ways to make urban agriculture more accessible for individuals with no background in such field.

What is the Problem?

Urban agriculture requires lot of dedication and education for an individual to continue their progress. This often leads many people to lose their interest quickly or never get into the field.

Defining Process

Solution

The solution for this problem was to make urban agriculture more fun and engaging for entry level individuals. As a result, cute characterized animal figure was created with linking system with Boonka mobile app. Mobile app provided users various interesting systems and helpful information.

Reward System

User engagement has also improved dramatically by providing users gaming systems such as: Reward system, and skin system. Users can obtain reward points by completing tasks they are given, and they can use those points to buy skins they can equip on their Boonka.

Social Page

By adding social page to our mobile app, we gave users opportunities to share their progress with others, and share tips and tricks with other users. User engagement and fun aspect of urban agriculture has been greatly improved by adding a social page.
